Good picture. To get an idea of the magnitude of our use of coal, read John McPhees, Uncommon Carriers. These coal trains that ship WY coal to SE US pwer plants are miles long, hundreds of cars, and almost a living thing in and of themselves; a 2% grade t0 sploe has to be negotiated like climbing a mountain! Fascinating reading! Entertaining, easy reading non-fiction. The Pine Barrens, Oranges, his geology/tectonic plate theory 4 parter, Annals of the Former World (written over the course of 20 yrs for the New Yorker magazine,) [his first, In Suspect Terrain, covers the geology of the Ridge and Valley province of PA, starting @ the Delaware Water Gap; thanks to that book, I found, from the top, off a PA SF rd, aAnita Harris Holy Toledo! cut, the deepest roadcut east of the Rockies, {its just W of Lewisberg, PA, home of Bucknell U;} on an advtour;] The Deltoid Pumpkin Seed etc. Own em all, great books!
