Government and Council provision for cyclists is reckless in this country. In our towns and cities men, women and children cyclists struggle dangerously for road space with buses and trucks. I saw a young mother cycling with a child on a seat behind her this morning on the quays in Dublin dangerously dodging the buses pulling in and out in heavy traffic. There is no cycle lane despite the fact that hundreds of cyclists use the quays every day. Dublin City Council clap themselves on the back for extending the Dublin Bike Scheme to Heuston station but wouldn’t think to providing a cycle lane to Heuston station. In fact where cycle lanes do exist they are often simply a white line painted on the road that is ignored by many bus and truck drivers.
