Government is proposing minimum 75% in boards as IIT eligibility criteria In Past the eligibility criteria to get admission into IITs was minimum 60% marks in XII board examinations but last year this criteria was changed and top 20 percentile came into picture. Due to this top 20 percentile eligibility criteria many legal complication were raised after seat allotments in IITs this year. The top 20 percentile cut offs has varied largely across different boards with some like Andhra board and Tamil Nadu boards having high cut offs of 91.85% and 90.9%, respectively. It forced HRD ministry to re-think on its deceision. According to sources HRD ministry has proposed some changes for JEE Advanced 2014. As per this new proposal JEE Advanced 2014 pattern will remain same as it was in 2013 but eligibility criteria might be fixed to minimum 75%. That means if JAB accepts this proposal, then any IIT aspirant should have minimum 75% marks in XII board examination only then he will be eligible to get admission into IITs on the basis of JEE Advanced Merit Rank. But JAB might disapprove this proposal by MHRD, Why? The proposal may be disapproved as it doesn’t take into account different categories like SC/ST and OBC. The JAB may also consider increasing the number of students for JEE(advanced) from 1.5 lakh to 2 lakh.
