Grace Ellen Gordon Schindler, 54, of Butte, Mt. died Monday, January 12th due to complications from a rare, hereditary auto-immune syndrome. She was cremated in Butte, Mt. shortly after she passed over and her ashes will remain with her children. A Memorial Service will be held in Browning, on Saturday, January 24th; beginning with a Mass at 11:00 am at Little Flower Parish followed by shared memories of her, music, and a feed, at the Glacier Homes Community Center in Browning, Mt. Grace was a member of the Blackfeet Indian Nation. She was born in Dillon, Montana on April 24, 1960. She was raised on the Blackfeet Reservation at the Wye where the Gordon’s, Dragonfly’s, and Yellow Kidney’s grew up together. She attended Browning Public Schools and graduated from Intermountain Indian High School in Utah. She attended the University of Montana after graduation and then moved to Browning where she attended Blackfeet Community College as well as worked at various places. Grace moved to Great Falls, for a few years, Illinois for a few years, and finally settled in Butte, where she resided for the past ten years. Our beloved daughter and sister left a legacy of strength, generosity, love, and hard work. From birth, Grace suffered health problems and as she grew up more were discovered, yet that never seemed to deter her from anything. Grace took on things that the average person would have found insurmountable; she was always helping others and her family when they needed it. Grace delighted in surprising people that she loved with gifts and she called her mother every day. Grace was either attending school and/or working wherever she lived, she was never without a job for long. At the time of her death, Grace was raising six of her grandchildren, her twins and two grandchildren, whom she had adopted, as well as working a full-time job. She is survived by her husband, her children; Robert Bitsui, Browning, Mary Rose Azure Smith, Billings, Julianna Olds, Helena, Megan and Madeline Kaiser, Butte, her mother; Geraldine Gordon, East Glacier, Brothers; Joseph, (Barbara) Arrowtop, Heart Butte; David Gordon, Browning; Tim, (Melissa) Gordon, East Glacier, Louis Red Cloud, Seattle, Wa., Zane Olesen, Bremerton, Wa., Jake (Spouse) Reum, Minnesota, Gabe Red Cloud, The Dells, Or., Sisters; Mona, (Dean) Kipling, Browning, Janice (Mike), Missoula, Roberta, East Glacier, Kathleen, (Glen) Kennedy, Two Medicine; Mary Gordon, North Dakota, Crissy Red Cloud, The Dells, Or., Diane (Richard) Griffith, The Dells, Or., fourteen Grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She is proceeded in death by her Fathers; Robert L. Gordon and Louis B. Red Cloud, Grandparents; Dave and Rosie (Yellow Owl) Wells, Aunts; Dorothy Dragonfly, Vivian Wells, and Doris Wells, Sister; Charlotte Gordon, Brother; Richard Gordon. You are all invited to come and share with Grace’s family in the Celebration of her life on Saturday, January 24th, 2015.
