Grade 3 Mathematics Maths in year 3 is about building children’s enjoyment, confidence and skills in their mathematical thinking using everyday language and problems . Hands on materials are used to introduce new topics and revise and reinforce concepts. This term some of our topics have included place value, addition and subtraction with trading, multiplication and division, time and symmetry. Many families have been enjoying the very popular take home Numeracy Bags that are packed full of fun activities to choose from. What the children think about Maths? Grade 3 maths is awesome, its enjoyable and it makes you smarter. Some people are working on addition like myself. I like the times tables I hope other people like it too. Bayleigh The thing I love about maths is the challenge. It’s great the way first you find out 10+10 but then you find 256-120. I definitely like looking at tables, graphs and all those kinds of things. Nic I think year 3 maths is fun because you go to other teacher and mix with friends. I enjoy my times ta bles because we learn songs to help us. I enjoy addition and subtraction, you can learn so much. Tara Grade 3 maths has been really fun this year. My favourite has been times tables because if somebody asks you a question you can answer straight away. Ethan G I really enjoyed making a flip book for my 9x tables and learning how to set out my book for trading. Ned M In maths I really enjoyed the “I have, who has” maths game because its really good fun and helps you to count in fives. Tarj W In cross group maths I really like the games we play and when Mrs O’Toole comes around and helps me when I’m stuck. Alicia . H I really like doing maths testing because its fun and makes my brain switch on. Hailee P Chloe likes doing trading with the MAB. Ebony likes doing division and multiplication and working things out. Layla likes playing beach ball maths where you throw the ball and answer sums. Patrick likes quick facts maths practise of our plus and subtraction facts. Mathew likes the “factivation “ program video. Maia enjoys using unifix and counters and sorting them into groups for division. Compiled by the grade 3 team.
