Grant Mayer released a statement today regarding some stories doing the rounds in the press. In case you missed it, here is a summary. Re: Mick Potter ... MAYER: Over the past week there has been much speculation about the future of Mick Potter at the Wests Tigers ... First and foremost, I have no desire to enter a public debate on this topic. Opinion and unnamed sources does nothing but jeopardise the team’s focus on making the NRL finals. Its unhelpful and distracting at a time that we all need to be single minded about achieving a well-publicised 2014 goal of making the top eight ... We understand that people want to know what is happening at the Club but please know that delicate and important decisions like this should not be influenced by any external sources. Our Members and Corporate Partners are most important to us and will continue to receive information from the Club as top priority. Re: Tim Sheens ... MAYER: At the beginning of the 2014 season the Club launched an exciting initiative around celebrating 15 years as Wests Tigers ... Our announcement of the Team of 15 Years deliberately focused on the players. The team was nominated and voted on by our Members ... This has now been cheapened by headlines in the paper that we have erased from history Tim Sheens’ involvement with this Club. What a load of rubbish. It is offensive in the extreme and takes away from a night celebrating our players. In addition to this, Wests Tigers and Tim Sheens are currently in court regarding the termination of his contract. I can assure you that it is complex and difficult for both parties ... Despite all this, Tim will always be remembered as the man who helped win the 2005 NRL Premiership with Wests Tigers. Players acknowledged his role on stage in an appropriate manner.
