Gratitude Day 14: I am so grateful to be part of Soaring Spirits and in the position to help newly widowed people. The past couple of weeks I have also had the blessing of helping ladies that are in the difficult last stages of being a caregiver to their husbands who are passing away from cancer. It is such a sacred time to be even a small part of their experience and to offer them hope for what they will do after. Today I was getting a pedicure and I over heard the lady next to me say something about a brain tumor, a few other people joined in the conversation and so I asked the lady who they were talking about. She answered, her husband who had just been put on hospice that morning. She was clearly in shock and going about her nail appointment because she didnt know what else to do. I reached into my purse and handed her a you are not alone card with my local group information. I told her that I knew that the W word (widow) was the last thing she wanted to hear right now and that she should just bury the card in her purse until she needed us and then we would be there for her. I also gave her my personal information in case she needed someone to speak to during the hospice process. I was so grateful to have something to give her, even if it was just a small piece of hope for the future. Thanks Michele Neff Hernandez for starting a group that really does so much for so many.
