Great Example of Stormwater Management I was watching a PGA golf tournament today in Louisville, KY and saw a great example of stormwater management. Within 15 minutes of a drenching downpour that left the green looking like a lake (with no discernible outline) and a pin cup that had totally filled and overflowed, the green was visible and playable and the cup was devoid of water. Not a single person had touched it. Within one and a half hours there were no puddles or visible sign of the downpour on the course. The deluge of rain had been absorbed where it landed. That is the goal of good stormwater management. The sooner the water is absorbed into the ground so “Mother Nature” manages the irrigation, the less damage occurs to streams, rivers, adjacent land, top soil and homeowners. Clearly the golf course developers knew how to design their course to facilitate this process. It behooved them to foot the initial bill and plan ahead. That’s exactly what city stormwater management ordinances need to mandate of anyone developing projects, large or small, in our city.
