Great...another survey. Our principals believe common core is good. Well, then...never mind. If they believe it, then Im sure that means theyve read it in detail, and fully understand who wrote its curriculums, whose funding it, what it proposes to let our little ones read (instead of the classics), etc. So, what business do we (the ones who pay their salaries and give them our children to care for) have to challenge their beliefs? Apparently, if you can convince enough people to believe something, then the rest of us are just supposed to accept it. To me...this is the most important issue our board faces, because it speaks to their MOST important duty...to make sure that what our kids are being taught is good. All the other duties (funding, zoning, etc) are secondary to what our kids are actually learning. Cant you all see that? We dont need to break the law or wreck our schools to challenge the coming debacle that is common core. Dont believe that petty fear-tactic. It is NOT just standards, folks. Its textbooks, its preposterous and lengthy math methods, its explicit reading materials...and much more. Its funded by corporations and foreign entities. To me, thats worse than a little PAC money supporting a candidate. Our board absolutely CAN and SHOULD stand with us against these dangerous elements of common core. Thats all most of us want...for them not to lay down and just let it happen. While we are preening in the mirror about how awesome we are...this trash is working its way into our childrens minds.
