Great turn out at the Squat Clinic this weekend at CrossFit Colfax! An important question came up this weekend that I wanted to address because I think a lot of people encounter this issue. Dont sacrifice form for depth. This is the theme of the squat clinic. So many people have difficulty getting full depth in their squat due to mobility restrictions. So in order to get full depth during workouts they create faulty movement patterns to get down where they believe they need to be. By turning feet out, letting arches collapse, breaking midline, etc. Yes, you do eventually want to have good depth below parallel (pending other issues). But not if you lose your form along the way. You must practice good form to the depth that you can handle, and the depth will come with time. You may have to discuss with your coaches that you are doing this, so they dont continually tell you to go deeper. But its worth it. Otherwise you will continue to practice poor movement, being less efficient and risking yourself for injury. Just some food for thought:) NEVER SACRIFICE FORM FOR DEPTH!
