Gubernatorial candidate, Mr. Wolf, opted against answering the child protection questions we submitted to him on September 3rd. However, after 100+ advocates, moms, doctors and others wrote to the gubernatorial candidates, Mr. Wolf did release this statement last evening: Tom Wolfs Statement on Child Welfare in Pennsylvania I commend advocates across the state who are working hard everyday to protect our children. I believe safety is a fundamental civil right and our youngest residents should have the security of living in a safe and loving environment. While the commonwealth has taken some major steps over the last few years to address child abuse, I know more work still needs to be done. We need to make sure that we have the right procedures in place to keep abusers away from children, that our intervention and prevention programs are research-tested and outcome driven, that we are coordinating services across government agencies and the public, private, and nonprofit sectors, and that our laws enable victims to seek justice. As governor, I will work with key members of my administration, including the Secretary of the Department of Human Services, county children and youth agencies, and regional child advocates to assess current programs and laws and make sure that we are taking the appropriate steps and enacting policies to protect Pennsylvania’s infants, children, and youth. --Tom Wolf
