Guest Book PDF Print E-mail Addthis SPIRITUALITY — THE POWER TO CHANGE SOCIETY — Sh. L.K.Advani, The administrative head and leader of Prajapita Brahma Kumaris Ishwariya Vishwa Vidyalaya, most respected Dadi Parkashmani Ji, Sh. Brij Mohan Ji, Sh. Mruthyunjay Ji, guests and brothers and sisters associated with and dedicated to the Brahma Kumaris movement. All are aware that the main reason of my Mount Abu visit is the convocation function of the Internal Security Academy. As the Home Minister of India, I was invited to attend the convocation function, which was the main agenda. There are certain things, which people easily get in life. One gets salary and there is nothing special in that but when one gets a bonus, that is considered a special thing. I consider this programme as a bonus for me. But instead of calling it a felicitation programme, I would name it “A Thanks Giving Function” and that too not from one Home Minister, but two home ministers. I am the Home Minister of the Government. My home minister is someone else (pointing to his spouse present on the dais). I am extremely thankful because whatever inspiration I have received in my life, the major share of that came from saints and seers who are activists in the fields of spirituality, character building and morality. Intellectual Education alone cannot Transform Society Intellectual education can be obtained from all, but for bringing transformation in society or transformation in the world, a mere increase in intellectual capacity is not sufficient. Earlier, when I attended such a programme, I had mentioned a book, which I like very much. In that book it is said that people give a lot of importance to I.Q. (Intelligence Quotient). The writer of the book has underlined that more important than IQ is E.Q. (Emotional Quotient). If a person is very intelligent, but gets angry over small matters or feels envious on seeing his companions get ahead of him, that is a sign of low EQ. So one’s EQ is more important than one’s IQ. Moral Quotient—a Must for Personality Development I think whosoever has made efforts and endeavored for social change, has done so in his own way. Some have excelled in the spiritual field, others in the social or the political field. They will realize that EQ is surely greater than IQ, but even greater than EQ is the Moral Quotient (MQ). Emotional Quotient is greater than the Intelligence Quotient and Moral Quotient is greater than the Emotional Quotient. Even if one has good IQ and EQ but no moral or spiritual power, there cannot be full development of the personality and therefore one cannot bring about the desired, benevolent transformation in society. I appreciate that in institutions like Prajapita Brahma Kumaris Ishwariya Vishwa Vidyalaya, the Brahma Kumaris are putting forth best efforts to enhance this Moral Quotient in society. Their activities are highly appreciable. The Force behind Growth of BKs—Love for the Country and Discipline This morning, I addressed the trainees at the Internal Security Academy, which is also a training institute. While addressing the trainees, I told them that keeping in view of the nature of their duties, they require discipline and love for the country. On account of these two qualities, the BK movement has progressed by leaps and bounds. When this movement started in Hyderabad (Sind), it was in its subtle form. From there it marched to Karachi, and it is true that initially it faced a lot of opposition. In the process of braving the opposition, the form this institution has taken and the effect it has created, is viewed by different people from various points of view. People from the entire world come here. The judges, parliamentarians, bureaucrats, teachers, educationists, media persons and executives—all come here and participate in the seminars and find that they could, perhaps not make the excellent arrangements they see. Management in the real sense of the term is what is seen here in its practical form. Spirituality provides the power to eliminate ego. It is written here: - Ego is the root of all sufferings. The more we eliminate ego in the self, to that extent our suffering will decrease and society will also prosper. Once a telephone company of New York conducted a survey— to see which word is used maximum number of times by the telephone users. They had thought that perhaps the most used word would be “ Hello” but the result of this survey showed that the word was “I”. After the parliament session, when a group photo is arranged, one looks for the photo of the self first of all, though there may be other 543 members as well but one would not see them. If his or her photograph is not good, he or she will blame the photographer whereas its inferior quality may be on account of pose or some other reason. This is the natural instinct of human beings. And it is spiritualism, which provides power to eliminate this natural instinct. The strength which spirituality provides to society, that strength is what makes it advance and helps it to prosper. Only then society is elevated. I salute all people engaged in this noble task. Today I express my gratitude to them. Awaken the Divine Propensities lying Dormant in Man — SH. ATAL BIHARI VAJPAYEE (Leader of Opposition) [Speech delivered at BRAMHAKUMARIS HEADQUARTER*] Respected Dadi Ji, legislators present on the Dais, ladies and gentlemen. On arriving here, I became aware of this newly built Academy for A Better World. I was also told about the Global Hospital, the activities of which have been highly praised. It is a matter of great pleasure that your organization has constantly been progressing; it is a developing organization. You are performing the task of making this world a better place to live in. This has been our aim since ancient times. There is both an angel as well as an animal instinct in man—constant endeavors are required to awaken angelic and divine propensities lying dormant in him, to inspire him on the path of becoming a deity from human being—Nar Se Narayan—and also check and keep the animal instincts in him under control. The present world is full of conflicts and impurities. Since ancient times it has been our endeavor to make human life fragrant with divine virtues. These aspects have been elaborately discussed since the times of Nachiketa who asked his Guru, ‘‘what is there after death’’? And ‘‘Who am I ’’? Does the human being cease to exist after death? Yaksha had asked the same questions to Yudhisthir and it has constantly been referred to ever since. If an answer to these questions can be found, it can be found only here, in India. We must remember this. May be we are trying to reach the same destination through science, where our philosophers, yogis, sanyasis and saints had reached through the path of meditation or Yoga. But the subjects of realization cannot be proven in a laboratory. How is this realization possible? Happiness and sorrow is also dependant on realization. If the realization can be sublimated, the feeling of sorrow decreases and desire for health increases. For this, endeavours and training are required, and an atmosphere of spirituality is required. I am extremely pleased to see the environment of this entire complex. Since childhood I have been associated with Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (R.S.S). I am proud of its discipline, peace and the selfless service. When I see your organization, I feel that you are also not behind; you have also excelled in this field. This, in itself, is a great thing. This is a country of 90 Crore people. There is need of many such organizations to associate every member with positive activities. The power of the organization should be utilized for the betterment of society. It is of immense value. In this organization, there is dedication and generosity, the deep instinct of service. There is also a deep desire to make the world a better place through toil and labour, just as sandalwood spreads its fragrance by vanquishing its own existence. Such organizations are the need of the hour. You should extend hearty invitation to those who criticize you. Today also something has been published in the newspaper. Perhaps he is the legislator of my own party, who has said something in the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly. I do not know whether he has seen your activities or not. I do not think he has seen these. And if he has seen, after seeing these how he comprehended these, I cannot see. Your work is like an open book, which I have been observing since many years. There may be differences but without any basis or proof whatever has been said in the Legislative Assembly, no case of contempt can be filed. Hence the responsibility of the legislators increases. As a Member of Parliament, I would not utter anything, which might create problems for others or might result into unnecessary rumors or confusion about them. Still I urge you to invite them, make them understand your pious activities and one day inspire them to be one of you-– this is my hearty desire. This would not be possible through anger or through sharp reaction. The answer to an abuse cannot be given by abusing. One who does not have a stock of abuses cannot abuse others. One who does not have filth with him, will only throw pure water and cleanse them, purify them. The filth sticks not only to body, but also to mind. That is why it has been emphasized to become Nirmal (pure). There is an urgent need to strengthen the international movement to make the world a better place. Although the dangers of a cold war have been averted and communism has accepted its defeat, yet there is a hectic race for uncontrolled consumerism by the capitalists. It has started making inroads into our country as well. We have to take from nature according to our need, not more than that. One who takes more than one’s need, does not do justice with the nature. But there is lot of misuse and wastage these days. The developed countries are consuming more than their need. They are consuming so much petrol that no energy would be left for remaining countries. I have seen in the West how the paper is being misused and the forests are being cut for making paper. There should be reasonable consumption of everything, a limit for consumption. If there is uncontrolled consumption, a better world cannot be created. If there would be a better world, it would be possible only on the basis of affection. It cannot be possible on the basis of falsehood. These days it is being stressed that truth should be left to the forces of market. In our country, there is no concept of bazaar; we have the concept of family. We do not want to make this world a bazaar; we want to make it a family “Vasudhaiv Kutumbakam’. That is why this Academy ponders that there should be a better world. You have concern for the world; India is naturally included in that concern. You have created this Harmony Hall, and you are running centres to inspire positivism in people. You have been providing training of various types; even foreigners are taking a share from that. Here they understand that it is the first step of the ladder of human welfare. It is a matter of great pleasure that our culture is being praised in other countries also. The path on which developed countries are treading is not the path of human welfare. The great Roman Empire was ruined. It was a very prosperous empire in the whole of Europe. It was unparalleled. Its army was considered unconquerable. Extreme prosperity led that empire into the clutches of vices. The high officials of Roman Empire started leading a life devoid of values. We eat to live, but do not live to eat. But there is a story about officials of the Roman Empire–- they used to eat throughout the night. That Roman Empire was ruined. You may visit Rome and see it for yourself. Here we want the happiness of mind. Where there is religion, there is morality; there comes the right that I will not take more than my need. If I am taking more, I am taking share of someone else-– this feeling can only be generated in this land of Bharat. The organisations engaged is this noble task should be honoured, they should be provided co-operation. If I come to know something about this organisation, which is not of my liking, I will ask Dadiji ‘this has come to my notice, how far is it correct’. I will not say ‘there is mismanagement here’. These days’ people have freedom of speech; such people do not pay attention to what others say. The situation in the legislatures and the Parliament is deplorable which I have been witnessing for the last 40 years. Brahma Kumaris – Towards a Better World… India should be better, this Kalpa should be better, tomorrow should be better than today. Better — it is a very important word. They say there has been a change, what is the change? Is it the change for betterment? Change should always be for betterment. We should not look back, should not fall. We should march forward and take India to new heights. We should make such a great India. Based on such India, the whole world should be created. You are engaged in this noble task. I wish you all success. You showered a lot of love on me. I am grateful to you for that. Namaskar. Spiritual Discipline can Create World Peace —Sh.N Chandra Babu Naidu, Chief Minister,Andhra Pradesh There is an urgent need to have spiritual discipline in life, which only can bring the environment of peace in the world. We observe discipline and order in Brahmakumaris organization. If even 10% of that is followed in politics, there can be a lot of change. The expressions of peace and happiness on the faces of the participants here show that the devotion of B.K. brothers and sisters and faith in God has achieved that what couldn’t be made possible by renowned management consultants. Along with value-based life, firm determination to achieve our goal and Scientific Temper can only lead a nation to prosperity. There are many qualities lying dormant in human beings, which need to be harnessed and channelised in the appropriate direction. If there are some weaknesses in us, we should try to overcome them. Love, affection and positive thinking only can create a better future for mankind. Swami Vivekanand had said if our present is good, our future will definitely be bright. It means, to create future is in our own hands. Though advancement in Information Technology is required for present age, man cannot get satisfaction if spiritual aspect is overlooked. These days there are plenty of physical comforts; still there is stress and tension in life only because moral values have been relinquished. The ideal of simple living and high thinking has been forgotten. Unless we adopt spiritual and moral values in life, the vision of creating a peaceful and prosperous world cannot be fulfilled. It is highly appreciable that you have combined science with spirituality. There is facility of simultaneous translation in 16 languages in this Diamond Hall. I would like to associate with the activities aimed at world peace. I would like to visit this place again and again to get valuable teachings. We have issued instructions in Andhra Pradesh to avail the services of B.K. organization for value edutation.
