Guitar Contest Guidelines Thanks for your participation in the first Sebastopol Guitar Festival Contest. Here are the guidelines for contest. Each contestant will have a maximum of ten minutes. This includes set up time so please be as swift as possible setting up. If you can play two songs in that time frame, feel free. If you’d prefer to simply do one song, that’s fine too. You are welcome to use accompanyists (singers, other instrumentalists, back up players). This is your choice but realize that the judges will be focused on your performance only and that additional players means additional time for set up. Judges will be assessing you in four categories: tone, articulation, creativity and overall performance. FYI, creativity doesn’t mean you should play an original piece, though to do so is fine. It means have you brought something interesting or new to the piece being played. This is our first year doing the contest so, unfortunately, we’re not able to offer the kinds of prizes we would like to (a new guitar for instance). However, we will have prepared for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners a certificate suitable for framing or display and we will offer you an opportunity to play at next year’s Festival which, depending on the success of this festival, will either be a paid or volunteer deal.
