HAYYYY APSA! Juss wanted to let yall know that APPLICATIONS ARE OPEN for a DOPE ass travel study program that I did this summer in Hawaiʻi that focuses on Asian American Studies & Pacific Islander communities. Its a super engaging program that allows folks to deconstruct Hawaiʻi, in terms of decolonization, sovereignty, indigeneity, and multi-racial & multi-ethnic relations and also explore Asian American & Pacific Islander experiences and identities. BUT MAIN POINTS: 1) PROFESSOR ROD is the realest social justice/ethnic studies educator Ive had the pleasure of learning from, hes a 1.5 generation Pilipino American who grew up in Southeast San Diego, so hes an amazing mentor/resource. (Yall may know him from his book Empire of Funk: Hip Hop and Representation in Filipina/o America) IT MIGHT BE HIS LAST YEAR DOING THE PROGRAM, SO DONT MISS OUT ON LEARNING FROM HIM. 2) I did this program on a FULL-RIDE scholarship (excludes air fare) offered by the UCLA International Education Office and there are other general study abroad scholarships available, so feel free to ask me about funding opportunities!
