HEAT REPEAT: Melbourne managed a hot maximum of 40.5 degrees this afternoon, with a cool change expected to arrive in the city around 8.00pm. Kidsafe Victoria used today to remind parents of the dangers of leaving children in hot cars, with 53 recorded cases during the heatwave two weeks ago. Between September 2012 and August 2013, Ambulance Victoria paramedics rescued 1,100 children who had been left unattended in a car. Figures from Ambulance Victoria reveal that: - More than 78% of children rescued were under four years of age. - 21% of incidents occured at a home. - More than two thirds occured in car parks, streets or public places, and - November - March was the period with the most incidents, with an average of five per day. Kidsafe Victoria implemented the Do Not Leave Children In Cars campaign to raise awareness of the dangers of leaving children unattended in cars and reduce the number of incidents across the state. As part of the campaign, Kidsafe Victoria has produced a number of resources including the Do Not Leave Children Unattended in Cars signs, which are ideally suited for car parks at shopping/cafe stips, parks, gardens, shopping centres, entertainment venues, petrol stations, business premises, schools, kindergartens and early childhood centres.
