HELLO BULLDOGS! TIME TO AWAKEN THE BEASTS! ARE YOU READY FOR SOME FOOTBALL!?! Hope this message finds everyone well. Here we are only 1 week away from the beginning of Bulldog conditioning to begin the 2014 Banks Bulldog season. This will mark my 6th year with the Banks Bulldogs, and I have encountered many young men who love the game of football and I have enjoyed coaching every one of them. Many great things have happened with the Bulldogs since we started in 2009. It is hard to explain the hard work and effort put in during this time. Without the leadership, help and guidance of men like Walt Eubanks and Reid Rouse this program would have died on the vine. They provided the needed structure, discipline and consistency that a football program requires and the Bulldogs needed. Along with the help of Coaches Johnny Gaskill and Neil Colie the Bulldogs thrived. With in front of and behind the scenes help of Crissy Rouse, Christy Eubanks, Nancy Gaskill and Dawn Cromer many things were taken care of and not overlooked. Many sincere thanks to them. We started practicing on the baseball outfield, since there was no dedicated football field. We had helmets and pads that had seen better days and ZERO equipment except for a 2 man sled that we still use today. But with the help of an outstanding site supervisor Ivan Monroe he allowed us to keep our helmets/pads and we repaired or purged the substandard items. All other equipment was purchased by coaches or donated. With the help and generosity of Reid and Crissy Rouse, we were able to purchase new uniforms for both the 10u and 12u teams, pants included. And we look sharp! We worked tirelessly on the 40yrd football field. We mowed, raked and picked up more than 200lbs of nuts and bolts that were remnants of the classrooms that sat there. We put up a fence around the field and topped it off with official goalposts, again thanks to Ivan Monroe. Our numbers have increased steadily and we are proud of the impact we have had on many young men and Lenoir county football. Our first set of Bulldogs from 2009 are now rising Sophomores and Juniors in area high schools. In the last few years Johnny Gaskill and Neil Colie have been a part of the coaching team. Without either one of them the 10u team would not have survived. Both have continued to provide discipline and intensity to the program. As many of you know Reid Rouse left last year and now helps coach at North Lenoir. Last year the 12u team was coached by Waly Eubanks and Neil Colie and the 10u was coached by myself and Johnny Gaskill. Walt Eubanks has decided not to coach this year and Neil Colie will no return since his son, Hunter will be moving to Frink. So this year myself and Johnny Gaskill will be coaching BOTH the 10u and the 12u teams together. I am, along with Johnny, are very excited about the opportunity to combine Bulldog teams. I know there will be glitches but i am confident they can be worked out. We will be starting VOLUNTARY WORKOUTS ON AUGUST 4, 2014 FROM 6-8PM MONDAY-THURSDAY. These are voluntary workouts that will cover conditioning, position drills, offense and defense plays and fundamentals. Practicing together the 10u can learn from the 12u and the 12u can learn to be role models and leaders. All August practices will be NON-CONTACT! (with other players, not equipment). I look forward to another exciting year and fun filled Bulldog football season, and wish the best to all players and fans who move on to greater places. Sincere thanks to all I have mentioned and my apologies to those I may have forgot. I will post a September practice schedule tomorrow and begin my text roster then. THANKS TO ALL!
