HELP! Dog lovers; attention, please! I need your help! Long story short -- there is a 2+ year old red/white Pitbull (female) across the street from me in serious need of a new home, be it temporary or permanent. She is not thin, but has been neglected (tied in a pen and forgotten). She is not trained or really socialized. She is NOT aggressive - never barks - but is terrified of strangers and when cornered will growl. She has never shown any aggression towards my dogs and she is often loose in her pen (with freedom of the yard) and never strays nor bothers any of the stray cats that live around her. She is freezing. We are in single digits here now -- with wind-chills below zero. She has a shelter (of sorts) tarps covering her pen that sits under the cover of mature trees - but has no straw or blankets. She digs a hole in the ground and curls up in it. I gave her straw and two blankets yesterday - in addition to warm water (which he only had an ice block before I came), and no food. She is kept at the home of an eldery woman whose grandson takes advantage of --- he is used to coming every 3-4 days - gives the dog a 5 gallon bucket of water and dumps a 5# bag of dry food. With the recent turn of snowy, icy weather - he hasnt been over in days. I spoke with grandma yesterday who is unable to care for the dog and has repeatedly called the grandson --- where she gets only excuses. She will surrender the dog to me. Screw the grandson. he doesnt deserve the dog to begin with. This poor girl longs for human companionship - and when she gets loose - will lie outside the front door - hoping for any human interaction. She has had very little in her life. I will continue to bring her food and warm water - and keep her in straw. But I cant continue forever. I want to rehome this dog, RESCUE her, while Grandma is still on board with a surrender. I have my hands full with the animal masses I currently have; rescued cats and horses. I need someone else to step up to save this poor dog -- PUH LEASE!! I have contacted VillaLobos (famous Animal Planet Pittie rescue) and they suggested area Pit rescues. Talked to a few of those ladies --- and of course, they are all full. My area is notorious for producing Pitbulls... bred by the poor - hoping to supplement their welfare checks. Our humane society wont take in a Pit and Animal Control euthanizes upon surrender. Ugh. This dog doesnt deserve to die just because her owner is an idiot. PLEASE HELP! She needs a new home immediately; even if its just to foster her.
