HOCKADAY ISSUES SPECIAL INVITATION TO ALL ACTIVE DUTY MILITARY PERSONNEL AND VETERANS FOR JUNE 26 TOUR As part of the Hockadays participation in Blue Star Museums, the Museum is offering free admission to all active duty military personnel and veterans this summer and invites them for a tour of the Hockaday on Thursday, June 26, to see the A Journey through History: Art and Artifacts from the Collection of Dr. Van Kirke and Helen Nelson and Plein Air Paint Out exhibitions. Personnel and veterans may bring up to five members of their immediate family. KALISPELL, MONT. - On Thursday, June 26, the Hockaday Museum of Art extends a special invitation to all active duty military personnel, veterans and up to five members of their immediate families to enjoy a 10:30 tour of the Hockadays current exhibitions. Those guests may enjoy free admission that day from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and every day the Hockaday is open, Tuesday through Saturday, through Labor Day. Visitors may return on any Thursday or Saturday for a 10:30 AM tour, which is always included with their admission. The Hockaday guests will see nearly 90 items from the personal collection of Dr. Van Kirke and Helen Nelson in the Hockadays newest exhibit A Journey through History. The front three galleries feature art and artifacts arranged according to geographic areas of interest: Northwest, Southwest and Plains. The landmark exhibit includes significant works from well-known Western artists such as C.M. Russell, O.C. Seltzer, John Fery, Edgar S. Paxson, Charles Fritz, Fred Fellows, Joseph Henry Sharp, Syndey Laurence, Ace Powell and many others. Also on display are the works from twenty-seven renowned artists in the Hockadays Plein Air Paint Out. All of the paintings will have been created the previous week during the annual three-day event where the artists painted outdoors in the Flathead and in Glacier. The fourth fully restored Glacier National Park mural joins the first three on display in the Museum, and is the largest yet to be restored at 4’ by 11. All four works were restored by Joe Abbrescia, Jr. and depict iconic landscapes of Glacier National Park. The Hockaday joins more than 2000 other museums across America to offer this free admission program is available to any bearer of a Geneva Convention common access card (CAC), a DD Form 1173 ID card (dependent ID), or a DD Form 1173‐1 ID card, which includes active duty U.S. military ‐ Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard, as well as members of the National Guard and Reserve, U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps, NOAA Commissioned Corps ‐ and up to five family members. The Hockaday has chosen to also include veterans in this special thank you to our country’s service members. The free admission program lasts through Labor Day Weekend 2014. The Hockaday Museum of Art is located in the cultural district of downtown Kalispell at 302 Second Ave East. It is housed in a 1904 Carnegie Library building that appears on the National Register of Historic Places.
