HOW A MOVEMENT CAN QUICKLY GAIN SPEED & MOMENTUM Like a crazy - TopicsExpress

HOW A MOVEMENT CAN QUICKLY GAIN SPEED & MOMENTUM Like a crazy nut, he stands alone… Then something revolutionary happens. If you can unleash this lesson, you can start a movement! Dave Sivers provides us with an excellent analogy about leadership. I’ve broken it down into 6 quick steps. First, watch a movement happen, start to finish, in under 3 minutes, and see if you can spot the 6 lessons: 1. Stand Alone. Be Easy to Follow Sivers says “A leader needs the guts to stand alone and look ridiculous. But what he’s doing is so simple, it’s almost instructional. This is key. You must be easy to follow!” 2. A First Follower Shows Others How to Follow Sivers explains “Now comes the first follower with a crucial role: he publicly shows everyone how to follow.” You can see in the video that the leader accepts the first follower as an equal. They share the same vision, purpose, and movement. The first follower is also a cheer leader, cheering on the movement and making it contagious. Others want to be part of this! Now it is becoming a group experience. It begins take on a life of its own. 3. Spot the Turning Point “The 2nd follower is a turning point: it’s proof the first has done well,” Sivers points out. “Now it’s not a lone nut, and it’s not two nuts. Three is a crowd and a crowd is news.” 4. Make it Public Sivers teaches that, “A movement must be public.”( I was thinking that Jesus had a little group and that little group drew a massive crowd.) 5. Let Momentum Grow This happens as a crowd draws a crowd. People want to be part of a success and they don’t want to be left out. Soon it’s riskier to be the hold-out than to get on board with the movement! 6. Always Accept New Followers As more people jump in, it’s no longer risky. Sivers points out, “If they were on the fence before, there’s no reason not to join now. They won’t be ridiculed, they won’t stand out, and they will be part of the in-crowd, if they hurry.” Sivers’ Last Quick Thoughts There is no movement without the first follower. We’re told we all need to be leaders, but that would be really ineffective. The best way to make a movement, if you really care, is to courageously follow and show others how to follow. When you find a lone nut doing something great, have the guts to be the first person to stand up and join in. Question: How are you treating your first follower? Or, whose first follower are you? https://youtube/watch?v=fW8amMCVAJQ
