HUSBAND ABDUCTS WIFE IN PUNJAB; PARENTS STAGE DHARNA Media Jan 29, 2014 Four car-borne men allegedly abducted a 19-year old woman from Jagraon town nearly 40 kms from the district headquarter Ludhiana. The husband of the girl is said to be among the abductors. The parents of the girl have alleged that when the girl stepped out of their Mohalla Ram Nagar residence she was way-laid and bundled into a car by four youths including her husband. The car then sped away before an alarm could be raised, they said. The incident has caused widespread panic and resentment among the residents. The family of the girl and the residents have started a dharna at the place of abduction. Shopkeepers in the area have downed shutters in support of the family demanding recovery of the girl and strict action against the abductors. Police have registered a case and started manhunt for the abductors. Talking to YesPunjab Ludhiana Rural SSP Ashish Chaudhary said that the girl had marrierd one Manish Kapoor in the court and as her parents opposed the marriage, the couple had sought protection from Punjab & Haryana High Court after which the police had provided protection to the couple. The SSP said that the couple and the parents of the girl had ironed out their differences and patched up. He said that the girl had come to her parents from the last few days and the parents have now alleged that the husband has abducted his wife. He said that the police were on the job and more details could not be divulged at this stage of the investigation.
