Had a chance to catch Barber’s Tales during its last day at SM Cinema. Pleasantly surprised at how good this movie turned out to be. Totally thought provoking and deep. You have to listen to the dialogue to get it. It is a movie about the intertwined lives of 4 women set against the backdrop of year 1975, the tyranny of the Marcos era. A movie about hope, transformation and liberation. If you want to give your minds a jog, then this movie is for you. It’s also worth mentioning that Eugene Domingo won best actress for this film at the Tokyo International Film Festival and nominated best actress at the 2014 Asian Film Awards. This film also bagged 3rd place Audience Award at the 2014 Udine Far East Film Festival in Italy. Also noteworthy are the performances of Nonie Buencamino as the as the mayor and Gladys Reyes Sommereux as Susan, plus the surprise cameo of Nora Aunor at the end.
