Had the most incredible conversation with my lyft driver about the work he and his wife are doing in their community. They are working with Ferguson folks, and community associations, and education focused groups and peace development organizations. We talked about the difficulty of finding a balance between holding others to account and not victim blaming while also taking responsibility for your own life. He shared about being a father to two young Black men and a Muslim and how to balance standing up for yourself and being smart about your environment and not encouraging aggression. He was clearly a brilliant thinker and an organizer in the Million Man march and passionate and sweet. We are planning to keep in touch. Hes excited about the ways tech is making movements scalable. We were so immersed in talking we missed my terminal and had to circle around and I missed the check bag cut off for my flight. But I couldnt care less. That was such a deeply affirming conversation. I have such an incredibly blessed life and an amazing job, to get to travel around and connect with so many passionate leaders. There are so many amazing people in the world and Chicago really seems to be doing its fair share pumping them out.
