Haiku Seeking Clarification (5/7/5) You have said to me: “Family is important.” You have also said: “Please don’t call my house. I can’t say your name at home. It drives my wife nuts.” Last visit: my home You had worries on your mind. Shared nothing with me. Together: dinner. We had light conversation. Next day, folks shared truth. Concerns about dorms Weighed heavily on your heart. You said not one word. I want you to know: It cut like a knife. The painful reality: You do not trust me. It’s hard to accept That I‘m clearly not welcome To share in your life. (Do you agree?) Communication Can help us to clarify Our mutual needs. Avoidance was used As a time management tool. Let’s reclaim lost years. We are two siblings. Related by our genes. With lives divided. I see “family” As spiritual soul friends. Do we share this gift? It’s not length of time, Or frequency that’s valued. It’s the quality. Happy birthday songs While ignoring hurt feelings Is not “family.” Loving family Does not speak and say nothing. They share from their hearts. I wonder: Who won’t let you be Father, husband, brother, son? And why is that so? What is happiness? On what scale is it measured? And what is the cost? What is misery? Is “less misery” happy? What is the price paid? Bottom lines: And I remain here Waiting for you to reach out From your honest heart. If you need to heal Let me know how I can help. Love, your sister, Fran ~Iwoknai
