Hailes castle was yesterdays trip. Hailes castle was built in the 13th century and then extended in the 14th and again in the 15th.this is a beautiful location above the river tyne and is one of my favorite places as its peaceful and quiet. This castle was besieged many times in its history and has two pit prisons. One of which was the resting place for a man who fell in love with the Lairds wife and through jealousy threw him in to starve. Mary queen of scots spent time here before her marriage to the earl of Bothwell. There are stories af a white lady that roams the main gste to the castle and a little girl who likes to spend time in the bakehouse. We got an amazing EVP down there once that sounded like a small girl saying dont do that Hailes castle, although mainly a ruin is definately worth a visit. 1.5 miles SW of East Linton Free admission but please be respectful of the houses at the main entrance.
