Hang on: this is going to be a longish post. A story of Finer Things, if you will. One of the things I love about this job and this place is that no matter how bad things get, there is always something or someone who comes through that door that totally makes the negative aspects of life evaporate. Its been a tough couple of weeks, for various reasons, and I was starting to succumb to the dark side. I was moving things around (when in chaos, create chaos, etc.) when I picked up a vintage clutch that needed a little love and had lost its price tag. I took it to the desk and went to look it up on the system. One thing led to another and 6 hours later I got back to the task at hand. I opened the purse dusted it out a bit and gave it a little bit of buffing on the outside. I noted that it held its original mirror inside a small pocket. I decided to remove it to make sure it was clean, too. Hidden and camouflaged by the mirror was a little card. It was yellowed and splotched with age and exposure to all things that are carried in a purse. In neat handwriting was a note: To The Dearest Little Wife in the world. With worlds of love nineteen kisses. Roy. When I turned over the card, I realized it was written on the back of a business card of the gentleman who wrote it. And so I started searching for more information about him and his bride and I forgot what was troubling me. Nineteen kisses for nineteen years? I wondered what their life was like, how long their love lasted, and what had happened to them. Granted, its a guess that she had kept that note in that handbag for a very long time. I can only assume that it meant something to her. She obviously meant something to him. I found a few answers and possibly a way to return the note, if not the note and the bag, if it is wanted. Time will tell. Its only when I lose sight of the Finer Things, that I forget what is important and let things get me down. Roy reminded me of those things today. Thank you Roy for demonstrating several of the timeless Finer Things in life: romance, gratitude, class, and love.
