Happy 4th of July Weekend Saturday. Yesterdays 4th of July Deluge got me remembering ... Two years ago this day was not so Happy for most of Atlantic County and surrounding areas. I woke up in the middle of the night to a complete power outage. Figuring it would be short lived, I did what I could to make my Minnows and Bait comfortable and went back to bed. By 4 am there was still no power so I got out in the complete dark and started getting generators running and extension cords to my bait pumps. When it got light I saw neighbors walking the streets and trees down along Berkley Avenue. Slowly information came in and we had experienced a Derecho straight line winds that exceeded Hurricane Force. A few early customers from outside the affected area did come by the store and told stories of downed trees and detours off the main roads like bombs had gone off everywhere. I really couldnt see the total impact until I had gotten my situation stabilized and my wife and I went out to find a place with electricity to get some breakfast. Absecon was a maze of downed trees. Our power was off for a full three days, but many local areas and individuals were out over a week. I dont have pictures because my property actually didnt suffer any damage while a couple hundred yards away was massive destruction. And no Facebook report because I had no electricity to power computers.
