Happy Birthday from the Limestone Coast With August 1 being the official horse’s birthday, all at Mill Park Stud would like to wish all horses out there a “Happy Birthday” for today and fingers crossed for another carrot or sugar cube in the feed bin today! Two special horses we would like to give a big birthday wish to are the older statesmen of the farm. Group One winners Toldeo (pictured) and Gold Guru both retired to the lush paddocks of Mill Park Stud after their racing careers ended, and ever since they have been involved in “baby sitting” many of the youngsters; keeping an ever watchful eye over the yearlings as well as the weanlings – the future racetrack stars. Toledo, affectionately known as Tolly, was a winner of eight races and over $2.1m in earnings for owner Kate Torr and with three Group One victories to his credit, a career highlight came with his first win at the elite level, capturing the Group One Stradbroke Handicap in 1998; a race he still holds the race record for at 1.20.2. Interestingly, Gold Guru was also the winner of eight racing during his career, but with slightly more earnings at $2.4m for his connections, the highlights are plentiful for this star of the track. A winner of three Group One races, the trio came within the space of four runs during his three-year-old season – capturing the Australian Guineas, the Ranvet Stakes defeating Might And Power and following that up two starts later with victory in the Australian Derby over Tie The Knot.
