Happy Birthday to Gary Lewis, July 31, 1945 7 / 31 / 1945 = Happy Birthday Gary Lewis . Born = N. Y. C. Hometown = Los Angeles, California. The son of comedian Jerry Lewis, Gary was exposed to music from the beginning of his life. Given a set of drums as a gift on his 14th Birthday, he decided to organize a group to play private affairs. After a few years experience, the Playboys auditioned successfully for Disneyland in 1964 & became one of the parks resident bands. They also began appearing on the Shindig T V show, which eventually led to a contract offer from Liberty Records A & R director Snuff Garrett. Beginning with This Diamond Ring in1965, The Playboys had a series of hits that lasted into 1967. Gary began a 2 year stint in the service. The band broke up. In the late 1980s Gary got a call from a promoter who wanted him to put the Playboys back together. Theyve been working steadily ever since then. Gary Lewis & The Playboys are part of the Happy Together Tour, in the Summer of 2014.
