Happy Empire Day!!! On this day in 1871, Wilhelm I, King of Prussia, was proclaimed the German Emperor of a unified German Empire! The German Empire, in its 47 years of existence, produced one of the most explosive periods of industrial, technological, scientific and cultural development in human history. The Reich also owned the greatest land army in the world with one of the finest officer corps ever known, and had a fantastic navy. The Empire was a fine place to live for workers, who enjoyed substantial protections and pension plans; for Jews, who were emancipated and were almost completely assimilated and served their empire faithfully and loyally; for its African and Asian subjects who enjoyed arguably the finest colonial administration in terms of humane treatment and autonomy that couldnt be found anywhere else; and for the average German overall, who saw their standard of living rise to greater heights. And lets not forget how well off their Polish subjects were too ;) Blog post coming hopefully before the AFC Title Game ;)
