Happy Sabbath everyone! The Sabbath Exodus 20:8 (KJV) [8] Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. [9] Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: [10] But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: [11] For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it. The Sabbath is the 4th commandment of the 10 commandments of God found in exodus chapter 20. They were written with the finger of God! So how do the 10 commandments including the 4th relate to us today? I will let Jesus words answer that question. Matthew 5:17 (KJV) [17] Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. [18] For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. [19] Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. The bible is clear that obedience to Gods law is required in the hearts of Gods children. Only by faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, and the changing power of the Holy Spirit can the heart be forward to do Gods law. Romans 3:28 (KJV) [28] Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law. [29] Is he the God of the Jews only? is he not also of the Gentiles? Yes, of the Gentiles also: [30] Seeing it is one God, which shall justify the circumcision by faith, and uncircumcision through faith. [31] Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law. Hebrews 8:10 (KJV) [10] For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people: 1 John 2:3 (KJV) [3] And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments. [4] He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. 1 John 3:4 (KJV) [4] Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law. Here are some examples of the Sabbath in the new testament. Acts 16:13 (KJV) [13] And on the sabbath we went out of the city by a river side, where prayer was wont to be made; and we sat down, and spake unto the women which resorted thither. ( Writen by Luke a gentile). Acts 13:42 (KJV) [42] And when the Jews were gone out of the synagogue, the Gentiles besought that these words might be preached to them the next sabbath. Acts 13:44 (KJV) [44] And the next sabbath day came almost the whole city together to hear the word of God. The book of Matthew was written well after Christs death, but he still separates the Sabbath, and the first day of the week. Written in Greek, we should know this book was not only for the Jewish people, but for all the world! Matthew 28:1 (KJV) [28:1] In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre. Jesus foretelling of the destruction of Jerusalem almost 40 years after his death and ressurection refers to the Sabbath. Matthew 24:20 (KJV) [20] But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the sabbath day: There is a difference between the 7th day Sabbath and the Sabbath days that were done away with at the cross. Colossians 2:16 (KJV) [16] Let no man therefore judge you in meat, or in drink, or in respect of an holyday, or of the new moon, or of the sabbath days: [17] Which are a shadow of things to come; but the body is of Christ. Romans 14:5 (KJV) [5] One man esteemeth one day above another: another esteemeth every day alike. Let every man be fully persuaded in his own mind. [6] He that regardeth the day, regardeth it unto the Lord; and he that regardeth not the day, to the Lord he doth not regard it. He that eateth, eateth to the Lord, for he giveth God thanks; and he that eateth not, to the Lord he eateth not, and giveth God thanks. Here are 2 text referring to the sabbath days Leviticus 23:24 (KJV) [24] Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, In the seventh month, in the first day of the month, shall ye have a sabbath, a memorial of blowing of trumpets, an holy convocation. Leviticus 23:32 (KJV) [32] It shall be unto you a sabbath of rest, and ye shall afflict your souls: in the ninth day of the month at even, from even unto even, shall ye celebrate your sabbath. These are not the 7th day Sabbath of the 10 commandments. Obeying Gods law is very important, for in the book of Revelation it reveals that Gods commandment keeping people, will not be the ones that receive the mark of the beast. Revelation 14:11 (KJV) [11] And the smoke of their torment ascendeth up for ever and ever: and they have no rest day nor night, who worship the beast and his image, and whosoever receiveth the mark of his name. [12] Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus. We can also look to the future after all things are made new, to observe Gods Sabbath Day together. Isaiah 66:22 (KJV) [22] For as the new heavens and the new earth, which I will make, shall remain before me, saith the LORD, so shall your seed and your name remain. [23] And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before me, saith the LORD. May God bless this study
