Happy Yalda night! Tonight, Dec,21 is the longest night in northern hemisphere (reverse in southern one). we celebrate this night with very long traditions which rooted in more than 7,000-10,000 years before and comes by the pagans. our ancestors were celebrate Mitras (goddess of water) birthday in such night. I see very similarity between the names Yalda and Juldag (in Danish). after Christianity the tradition changes name with Christmas, but still the same day and same traditions. in Persian Literature Yalda night is the metaphor from night of separation which seems very long and endless for the lover! We, Iranians celebrate the night with waking long and party with families and friends to read the poem, literature and lovely stories. ideally we observe the dawn and how the light defeats darkness. Happy Yalda to all of you, and Happy Juldag for my International christian friends.
