My Moms family actually lived through the very first gut-wrenching scene in real life, thanks to their pastor convincing a US Navy Captain to turn the ship around for them. It was amazing and powerful to see with my Sokcho Auntie, who was 4 years old then, and actually remembers everything vividly about their escape. She was bawling. It was so healing for her!!!
