Have you tried not eating? It works. [We tend to thrive the most when we are deprived, at least for short periods, and tend to suffer the most when we are over-engorged. Short-term deprivation, like fasting, is healthy to almost any organism, but especially us. Hardship builds toughness and strength. Fasting is a hardship. Exercise is a hardship. These things, so long as they are not overdone, are wholesome. Strain is good. But overstrain is bad. Too much exercise, bad. Too much fasting, bad. This is where minimalism comes in, where you apply the least amount of strain needed to get the job done, or the response that you want, and not a smidgeon more. So heres my challenge for you, which you can do as soon as tomorrow, if youd like. I want you to take a break from eating for 16-24 hours, 24 being preferred, but start with 16 if youve never done this sort of thing before. You wont starve, or wreck your metabolism, trust me. Science says fasting is good for us: Burns fat, increases growth hormone, retards the aging process, and wards away fleshly ills. Its like exercise in many ways, and will keep you robust. And even a little goes a long ways, so no harm in starting slow, and easing your way into longer fasting periods. And if youre new to this, here are a few resources to get you started, of both the science behind fasting, and interesting ways to apply it: 1. Eat Stop Eat A great text and objective overview of the benefits of intermittent fasting. Its likely fair to assume many of you have this text already, but if you dont, I will highly encourage you to pick it up: ==> bit.ly/1liaYfw 2. Fast Diets for Dummies The book few people know that I wrote (also horribly titled, but...). I published this with Dr. Kellyann Petrucci last year, and in it we examine four different approaches to Intermittent Fasting, so you can find the best style and approach for you: ==> amzn.to/1f3QIfw I hope you take this challenge, share it, see it through, and get awesome results. Check in and let me know how it goes tomorrow, ok?] - Pat
