Have your say on the Cape York Regional Plan The Queensland - TopicsExpress

Have your say on the Cape York Regional Plan The Queensland government is proposing a region-wide plan that will weaken environmental regulation and open up the Cape to invasive development like mining, logging and intensive agriculture. The world-renowned environmental significance of Cape York relies on it being one of the last intact tropical savanna landscapes on Earth. If the current regional plan is put in place, it would create gaping wounds in the landscape, destroying the connectivity that allows it to thrive. Tell Queenslands Deputy Premier and Minister for State Development, Infrastructure and Planning, Jeff Seeney, to keep it together and ensure the Cape York Regional Plan adequately protects the Cape. You can send your own message or personalise the message below by editing the text in the email body. The draft Cape York Regional Plan does not adequately protect the natural and cultural values of the region in its current form. Based on the Queensland government’s own scientific evaluation, areas of environmental significance are much more widespread than is recognised in the draft plan. I urge you to: - substantially increase the strategic environmental areas (SEAs); - maintain a ban on destructive mining throughout all SEAs, not just the Steve Irwin reserve; and - give biodiversity equal priority to economic development throughout the general use areas. Cape York Peninsula is a special place that all Australians can be proud of. It is unique and world renowned. While I appreciate that you have proposed a ban on destructive mining in the Steve Irwin Wildlife Reserve, we need to see more of Cape York protected from irreversible ecological damage. acf.action.org.au/page/speakout/cape-york?js=false This affects us all so please consider supporting Cape York Ronda Green Julie Ann Lawson
