Having just finished the first 3 chapters of 12 years a slave a first hand account of a freeman who was sold into slavery I am once again reminded of the brutality of this horrific institution at the spiritual, emotional and physical level. I am furthered horrified that there were those who did not value human life but use it to fund everything from the chicken on their plate to their childrens education. Tragically this still goes on today. Houston Texas is the primary hub of human trafficking. This book is public domain as it was written in the 1850s. There are even free audio versions. I have not seen the movie but the book after 3 chapters is well written and worth your time.
