Hawaii county has the lowest median family income of the counties. Our electricity rates have been 25% higher than Oahus for as long as anyone can remember. But, we are doing something about it. We are enabling geothermal development. Its costs are roughly half that of oil and the curtailed (thrown away) electricity can be used to generate hydrogen for transportation and possibly for nitrogen fertilizer. We have the Thirty Meter Telescope which will generate good jobs and provide our youth with a $1 million education fund. Every year for 58 years $1 million dollars will be added. It will start in a few weeks. We have public institutions that can do biotech research which can help farmers avoid some petroleum based inputs, help crops adapt to climate change as well as lower farmers and the rubbah slippah folks food costs. Since two thirds of the economy is made up of consumer spending we need to lower cost of living to the rubbah slippah folks. When they have spending money-everyone benefits. Its called trickle up economics.
