Haylee Dunn UPDATE: Just talked to Dr. She had a mass of fluid - TopicsExpress

Haylee Dunn UPDATE: Just talked to Dr. She had a mass of fluid infection just above her ear - AND - Unfortunately under the skull flap. THE BRAIN TISSUE and MEMBRANES COVERING IT WERE NOT AFFECTED. This is the good news. The bone flap is no longer a viable cover for her brain - and a 3 dimensional replacement will be created for her. She will be in recovery for another hour and 1/2 or so - then - as a PRECAUTION - she will be in the ICU overnight - so she can be CLOSELY monitored for swelling, vital signs, etc. The Infections Control team will get cultures of the infection, bone flap, skin tissues, blood work, etc - to try to determine the different types of flora bacteria - so they can use the best antibiodics for treatment. This will be done by IV - and will continue for 2 - 4 weeks , or at LEAST until they are SURE the infection has completely cleared up. THEN - they will replace the new bone flap. She should be able to get her IV antibiodics at home by a visiting nurse - and she will have to wear a helmet to get up and about - but he does not expect any changes to the progress she had made. In His words this was an incidental complication that did not affect the brain. Insert relieved breath here. He believed this infection is a result of exposure to environmental issues when the accident happened... lots of those in dirt, concrete, blood, debri - and may have set the infection in motion - we just didnt know about it. WE DO NOW!! We expect to be here a few days. We are not leaving until we are sure (all of us) she is out of danger, and set up medically to discharge. I love these people. I wish - I were typing none of this - but I am encouraged that what I do update is encouraging. Pray. Pray Hard. We have miles to go.... Your love and strength makes a difference.... and we do appreciate it! More Soon.
