He is the topper of the class, he comes 2nd, he comes 3rd, 4th, 5th, he is average, he is poor... and so on. Why cant we say? He is good at Chemistry, She is good at Music, Oh!! She writes beautiful poems, You better be careful because he is stand-up comedian, He is a fantastic actor, He does amazing paintings, She is an amazing swimmer, He is good at Mathematics, He is killer designer, She writes amazing plays, He plays Piano, His speeches are awesome, She cooks fabulous food, He is cool cartoonist. Schools are preparing the students for the exams only, and as a result students are also becoming exam oriented. They are taught how to be good at writing exams instead of how to be good at particular subject or how to be good at something you like. All energy, money and time is used in focusing how to prepare them for the exams. The parents, relatives, teachers and everybody else also treat them the same way, they all recognize you by how good you are in your studies. And by chance if somebody is not good at studies, nobody tries to find out the problem they just throw more problems at them with more tuitions more supervision and torturing by comparing them with their relatives, neighbors and friends children. If someone tries to find out what they like and what they want to do and help them with that the problem would be solved. I mean how 10th class or 12th class is more important than any other class, that doesnt make any sense. I think it is just another year of a learning process. It is because we think these mark sheets is going to matter at the end. Well I dont think so, because if you look at any successful persons past how vital those 10th and 12th marks were you will also agree with me. We are made to think so, we relate those marks to the success. Since you got good marks you became this or that. No it was not the marks, it was all there within you that is why you became what you are now. No marks can makes you or breaks you if you are determined and clear about what you want to do with your life. Education is supposed to teach us how to learn, how to evolve, how to gain knowledge about the things that matters to you. How to be good at something and not how to write exams. And sometimes I feel all we are doing is gathering information and information is not the knowledge in the era of google. Now lets look at carrier part I mean how you can justify this: Where if a student dont get admission in a medical college they apply for engineering, I mean where is the sense? What are you trying to do, there is no passion, and there is no seeking of knowledge about the subjects you want to study. It is just about money and prestige and for getting attention. Success doesnt come with marks and degrees it comes by learning and getting knowledge. And that is what kids are supposed to be taught in the schools, that is how to learn, they just needs guidance not the ready made map of the journey. You teach them how to learn they will find their own path, just be with them if they face hurdles that is it, that is all they need. It is necessary to quote this: I have never let my schooling interfere with my education. - Mark Twain Every child on the earth need to be felt special in some way, if that is not happening definitely there is something wrong and we need to fix it. Let’s not guide them to become somebody. Let’s help them to be themselves and bring out the best of them.
