Health warning - Residents in the Southwest have reported snakes, primarily dugites, including around gardens including Dalyellup, Eaton, Australind and South Bunbury. Snakes are particularly active this time of year. Please also remember that living in a residential development does not mean snakes may not frequent your area, and if you live close to a small parcel of bushland, it is likely there are snakes in the area. The dugite snake is venomous and closely related to the brown snake, which can be deadly. Dugites can also be a range of colours ranging from a cream colour through to brown. If you spot a snake in your yard, take precautionary measures for the safety of your family, neighbours and pets. If you are concerned or wish to have the snake removed, seek assistance from a local pest controller, or contact the City of Bunbury whom should be able to provide you with a local contact person to assist you. Additionally, if bitten, do not attempt to clean the wound or remove the venom, instead, raise the limb and apply bandages to the wound, attach a splint and proceed to the hospital immediately.
