Hearing Obama speak last night made me sick to my stomach. The memories of GWB in 2003 came flooding back. Here we go again... Back into Iraq to fight a manufactured enemy (which poses no direct threat to us) with no clear goal or plan for victory. Ensuring many more years of continued poverty and degradation of our infrastructure here at home as tax dollars are poured into the deep pockets of the Military Industrial Complex. And ensuring ever more death and destruction in the Middle East as more bombs are dropped on civilians, school children, shepherds, farmers, newlyweds, grandparents, etc., etc., etc... So much suffering and sorrow on the horizon... I weep for the innocent victims (aka collateral damage) who will surely be killed in the coming months and years at the hands of the US taxpayer (thats you and me). It sickens me that public opinion swung so dramatically in favor of war after the release of the 2 beheading videos (if recent polls are to be believed). Does no one see that this was precisely the reaction that they were hoping to elicit? The American invasion and occupation of Iraq is what left the power vacuum that ISIS is trying to fill and generated the hatred and instability that is causing people to join them now in large numbers. Getting the US to strike Iraq will only serve to strengthen their organization and boost recruitment. If you are one of those who recently found yourself thinking Gee, maybe the US should bomb the shit out of Iraq again..., please explain to me why seeing 2 americans get beheaded on youtube makes it suddenly okay to carpet bomb populated areas and blow children into bits (or did you think it would somehow be different this time because a Democrat is calling the shots?). Have we learned nothing in the last decade of endless warfare? Is there anyone left on the anti-war left? Or was there ever such a thing to begin with? Where are the protests?
