Heavy is the head that wears the crown This is a topic the NFL did a great job of addressing at my rookie symposium. I appreciate Smith for telling his story. I think this is a very important read, not only for NFL players, but their family and friends. Even though I signed a multimillion dollar contract at 22 yrs old, many people dont understand that the majority of NFL players are not millionaires, but they (players) still get pressure to take care of so many people. Learning to say no to family and friends can be extremely difficult, but players who understand NFL careers dont last long, know that you cant continually help everyone financially and expect to have financial security once your career is over. Players work hard for the incomes they earn. Stress between family and friends over money should be one of the last things on a players mind while hes trying to work.
