Heena Sidhu wins another World Cup medal, a silver in Fort Benning NEW DELHI, MARCH 29: Heena Sidhu won the womens air pistol silver in the shooting World Cup in Fort Benning, US, on Friday. The 24-year-old Heena, who had recently won the gold in the Asian Air Gun Championship in Kuwait, was beaten to the gold by Antoaneta Boneva of Bulgaria by 2.8 points. It was the second silver in a World Cup for Heena who had won the second place in Beijing in 2009. She had won the World Cup Final gold last year with a final world record. The Dentist from Patiala, who now trains in Mumbai with husband Ronak Pandit, did lead in the final for the first 12 shots, after having qualified in the second place on 386, one point behind the eventual gold medallist Antoaneta Boneva. However, the latter caught up and shot ahead steadily even as Heena grappled with a string of 9s in the climax. Malaika Goel (385) qualified in the third place but could not assert her class in the final, in which she lost the shoot-off to Nino Salukvadze of Georgia after being tied for the sixth spot on 119.4, in the knock-out phase. The third Indian shooter in the fray, former World University Games gold medallist Harveen Srao was disqualified owing to the trigger weight of her pistol not being within acceptable limits. There was further woe for the Indian camp as former Asian champion P. T. Raghunath had also been disqualified earlier in mens air rifle event, following a post-competition inspection. Meanwhile, London Games bronze medallist Gagan Narang was not at his best and had to settle for the 16th spot as he shot 622.4 and missed the final by 1.4 points in a field of 62 shooters. Olympic champion Alin George Moldoveanu of Romania also failed to make the final with a score of 623.6. In a thrilling final, Milutin Stefanovic of Serbia delivered a per fect 10.9 last shot but missed the gold by 0.1 point to Nazar Luginets of Russia. The results: Men: Air rifle: 1.
