Hello Chance, We are sorry to hear about your ring. A common misconception regarding black rings is that there is black tungsten carbide metal, all black tungsten rings you see from retailers (or blue or brown, etc) are completed with an ionic plating that is put onto the tungsten carbide ring. To make these rings, manufactures take a regular silver tungsten carbide ring, put it into a vacuum chamber, vaporize a black material (zirconium oxide) and then put an electric charge to the tungsten carbide ring that is suspended in this chamber. The ionized black material is drawn to the tungsten carbide ring. This plating is very durable, it is not a paint or powder coating or something the ring is just dipped into. However, in the end it is a plating that can wear faster than the tungsten carbide. What you are likely seeing is the scratching of the black plating, not the ring itself. When this occurs, the tungsten shows in its natural color underneath but remains unscratched. Black plated rings can show signs of wear over time because the black cannot be made as scratch resistant as tungsten in its natural color. But this depends on many factors including the wearer. We do have a lifetime replacement policy that covers any rings that are damaged. Please contact us via email at sales@tungstenworld so we can replace the ring with a brand new ring or you can elect to change to tje style that does not have black plating (as mentioned before, tungsten rings in their natural color will have the highest level of scratch resistance).
