Hello Dancers - Some news for the dance front: 1. Tonights dance class will still be held 6-8 at the National Hispanic Cultural Center but the room will be changed from the Salon Ortega to the Multi-purpose room in the Domenici Education Building. 6-7 Beginning and Intermediate Groups, 7-8 Intermediate Class. $5-$10 donation suggested. 2. A wonderful concert to attend for lovers of Cuban Music on October 11 7:30. Albuquerque bandleader trombonist, percussionist, composer and arranger, César Bauvallet, who also leads Son Como Son, Albuquerques premier salsa band, and teaches the Latin Music classes at Outpost, brings his dynamic seven piece Tradiciones ensemble to Outpost. César Bauvallets father, Daniel Bauvallet, was an entertainer (singer and drummer) at the renowned Tropicana and Sans Souci clubs in Havana, Cuba. César Bauvallets childhood memories are of a house filled with music-the passion, sabor and heart that flowed from the Sones, Danzones, Boleros and Cha Cha Chas of his parents generation. Tradiciones is Césars tribute to La Epoca de Oro de la Música Tradicional de Cuba (The Golden Age of Traditional Cuban Music). Tradiciones is César Bauvallet, vocals & trombone; Marty Carlucci, trumpet; Steve Figueroa, piano; Janet Harman, bass; Tomás White, timbales; and Tony Quiñones & Victor Rodriguez, bongos. All ages - $10-$15 3. Some wonderful dancers and friends Sidney Weaverling and Ryan Mead are co-leading a dance trip to Cuba from Dec 20 to Jan 3. I highly recommend this trip which includes a license to travel to Cuba. This dance workshop is produced by Ramón Ramos Alayo and Moran Hirsch, in collaboration this December with Ryan Mead and Sidney Weaverling of Rueda Con Ritmo. The trip combines a renowned dance program with immersion into traditional Cuban culture and great sightseeing in Cuba. The two-week program (December 20th, 2014 - January 3rd, 2015) features workshops in popular dance styles (including Salsa, Rueda de Casino, Cha Cha Cha, Mambo, Son, and Rumba) and folkloric dance styles (including Afro-Cuban, Yoruba, Afro-Cuban Haitian). For more information see: ruedaconritmo 4.
