United Way of Hill County Position Description: Executive Director The Executive Director is a flex-time, exempt position that is accountable to the United Way of Hill County Board of Directors (BOD). The position begins January 5, 2015. The position encompasses duties in the areas of leadership, administration, program management, financial management, and fund development. The hourly rate will be $15.00 to $20.00 per hour, depending on experience. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: Leadership •Implement and monitor the organizational strategic plan and develop goals and strategies that address prioritized issues related to health, education and income. •Motivate people and organizations toward a common goal. •Serve as a resource to the BOD and its committees and lead them in policy development and implementation of strategies to achieve the mission of the organization. •Represent the organization with integrity and in a professional manner. Administration (10% time allocation) •Implement the by-laws and policies as established by the BOD through the administration of the total organization and its activities. •Implement the policies and regulations of United Way of America through the administration of the organization and its activities. •Manage human, financial, and information resources in an integrated and strategic manner •Ensure timely and accurate filing of required reports for any applicable state, federal agencies, United Way Worldwide, and others. Financial Management (10% time allocation) •Develop annual operations and program budget, totaling $120,000, in conjunction with Finance Committee, and track progress. •Prepare a monthly report on income and expenses as well as any deviation from the budget. •Ensure strong internal controls for accuracy and transparency in all accounting and bookkeeping functions. Deposit money and other valuables in the name of and to the credit of the organization with Board designated depositories. •Coordinate completion of the annual independent audit. Program Management (40% time allocation) •Evolve and implement a fund distribution process that, in conjunction with the Community Investment Committee, allocates resources in accordance with BOD identified strategies. Actively engage in research and track community indicators for use in investment of resources. Engage with various sectors to ensure a broad scope of public involvement in determining and prioritizing where resources will be invested. •Promote coordinated efforts from a community-wide view; convene community stakeholders and GGUW partners. Maintain presence and role on current community taskforces, efforts, and collaborations. Build/support effective collaborations among local organizations to meet local human service needs using the capabilities of other sectors such as service, education, faith, justice, health, business, and government. •Help build the capacity of the human service nonprofit sector through information sharing, training opportunities, and connecting resources. Fund Development (40% time allocation) •Develop and implement an annual campaign plan that retains previous donors and attracts new donors, with a focus on increasing corporate and workplace giving. •Implement grant writing for current and additional private and public grants to achieve funded partner objectives. •Work with local businesses and community members to solicit and secure fundraising commitments. Education and/or Experience •Academic degree and/or related experience. •3-5 years of program management experience. Experience working with a BOD preferred. •Proven experience in relationship development, fundraising, or sales. •Demonstrated ability in public speaking, written and oral communication and interpersonal relations. •Working knowledge of non-profit fiscal management including budgets and financial statements or equivalent. Requires moderate physical effort, moving between 5 and 50 pounds, on an intermittent basis (less than 15% of the time). Incumbent must walk, stand, bend, kneel on an intermittent basis; Sit, use hands and arms, and speak on a frequent basis. Work is in an office environment, free of excessive noise or other disagreeable elements; temperature is regulated, with less than 10 degree Fahrenheit variation. The Executive Director is expected to occasionally work after hours (evenings and weekends) for special events and meetings. A personal vehicle is required.
