Hello. I wondered if any of you fellow dog nuts lived anywhere - TopicsExpress

Hello. I wondered if any of you fellow dog nuts lived anywhere near Blaydon/Winlaton? This is my gorgeous 7 year old Doberlady Giddy. From puppyhood she has always been a nervy girl and due to several unfortunate incidents (wrapping herself around a lampost while my other dog was being attacked by an off lead dog while out with my dog walker and several ambushes by an ignorant neighbours unruly bunch of lurchers/terriers) she is fearful of most dogs. Im resigned to the fact that she will never want to be that chummy with other dogs but Ive always strived to do my utmost to ensure she feels safe when out and about. Up until last summer she was used to going on group dog walks (on a long training lead) and it was wonderful to see her sneaking the odd butt sniff (canine I hasten to add), on occasion trying to instigate play and at her most relaxed rolling about in the grass surronded by off lead dogs. Last summer I moved from a very rural area of County Durham to the relatively busier Winlaton. This has taken its toll on my nervy girl and unfortunately shes jumped huge steps backwards in the confidence stakes. She now sees most approaching dogs as a trial to be got through and though she is improving (she only has a swearing/barking fit in certain situations and even then can be calmed/distracted most of the time), it is pitiful to listen to her shout out of pure fright if a strange dog enters her personal space. My ultimate aim is for the Gidster and I to join you on your wonderful walks. To get to that stage I wondered if any of you lived anywhere near Winlaton and would like to meet up for a walk to remind Giddy that it wont physically hurt to have a dog walk alongside us. I wouldnt suggest this if I thought I was putting anyones dog in any danger and I do think it will do wonders for Gids confidence. If it gets to much for either dog at any stage I will be the first to call a halt as my primary aim is for it to be a positive experience for all involved. So if you live near me, you have a confident dawg who can put up with a few swear words from a scaredy Gid and you can help me out I will be eternally grateful.
