Hello People! This is a long post so I kindly request you spare to 5 mins to read it please. Just an idea! I was wondering if we could organize international dinner and movie nights (secondary) once a month. Imagine eating authentic Mexican food right here in belgrade. And getting to know about the place. We have a lot of people from different cultures and they can all get together to let other fellows explore their food and culture. For eg We have a group of people from Carribean who cook their food and give a small talk like 15 mins of what it consists of and stuff! I don’t see forward to involvement of some restaurants or cafes as it makes it commercial (which is not wrong on their part) but I want to do this for purely experience basis. And cooking would at max take 6 hrs which is pretty ok in my opinion once a month. The idea works as follows: Finances: Let us assume 50 people agree for this. So we contribute say 10 euros(higher side) and collect it. Now we have 500 euros which is more than sufficient. Estimates: 150 for the place 200 for the food and preps (should be more than enough I guess) 150 miscellaneous. Whatever is left can be kept for the next round, returned to people equally or donated to some organization. Place: I don’t know if we could rent a place for 4-5 hours but it should work not costing more than 150 euros I would say (just a guess). Need not be much lavish just some cooking and washing area and wc would do and a space good enough to accommodate the number of people! Logistics: There can be a renting service for big utensils (we had it back in india) or that particular group who is on the cooking cooks at their own place. This is one big hiccup in my opinion and if this could be taken care of, the idea might work. If we cant arrange rented utensils, paper plates could do or people bring their own utensils for eating. In my opinion renting a projector should not be tough and costly helping enjoy a movie. Management: If people agree on this idea, we can a have a group from a country and can have one representative. Then we have a team which takes care of the place. Another team for logistics. People who have lived in Belgrade for long can be of great help on this. And then you co-ordinate with the representative and he/she co-ordinates within. Doing it once or twice would be diifcult but once we get a good place and utensils renting service this can work smoothly! Learn Cooking: People who want to learn different cooking even can learn it here. You can always ask the fellows who are cooking and be there when they cook and you get to learn how to cook various foods! Wastage of Food: Whatever food remains at the end can be parcelled for people those who liked it and we save the wastage too. Why Spend 10 Euros?????? 1. Financially: You cant have authentic food and movie for that cheap. 10 euros a month wont burn a hole in the pocket for sure. 2. Experience: In my travel I have noticed that even if we have international restaurants they alter the taste of food to suit the local taste which is a need but kills the originality. I am not saying everyone would like the food (maybe only 20 like it) but you definitely have the experience of it. I don’t think everyone can travel all around the globe so why not know try it if we all work together! If we do this lets say for an year even, we would have tasted foods from 12 different countries and will have some idea about the place! PS- Sorry if anyone felt that your time was wasted and the idea is immature. But it would be pretty satisfying if we can try to work it out because power of 50 brains can surely do it! . I don’t want the bgfvc page to be spammed if people like this idea and want to add to it. I will wait till this weekend and see the response and till then u can pm me!
