Hello Professional Colleagues, I hereby present NANNNA 6th National President, Dr. Julia Ugorji, DNP, MSN, RN. She will be the 2015 NANNNA National President. Dr. Julia Ugorji is an Adjunct Nursing Faculty with Howard University and the University of the District of Columbia in Mental Health and Community Health Nursing for BSN students. She also works as a Mental Health Nurse Specialist at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, MD providing care to active duty members and their families. She is a member of various nursing organizations serving in various capacities. As an active member of BNA GWDCA and Founder/ President of NANNNA- DMV chapter, Dr. Ugorji is actively involved in community programs in the District of Columbia providing screening and health education on prevention of chronic illnesses. In summer 2014, Dr. Ugorji traveled to Imo State, Nigeria for a medical/health mission organized by NANNNA. As a DNP candidate, Dr. Ugorji developed an Evidence-Based Practice Project on Lifestyle Modification Toolkit to Prevent and Manage Hypertension among African American Women between the Ages of 20-45 years. Her interest is in global health, especially as it relates to prevention and management of chronic diseases and mental illnesses among black people. She has presented both in local and national conferences. Dr. Ugorji is a peer reviewer for Journal of the Association of Nurses in AIDS Care (JANAC) and an author of several articles for NBNA and NANNNA newsletters Above all, Dr. Ugorji is a wife and a mother of five beautiful children.
