Hello again! Its been a busy day but I believe all my messages have been answered; please give me a nudge if Ive missed you at all. Anyway as a lot of you already know Im in the process of getting divorced and am currently living with my children at my wonderful parents house and running my business from here. This isnt a permanent arrangement, as soon as I receive my share of the equity in my house Ill be getting a mortgage buying my own home again. As a lone parent I need to ensure that I have regular work as there will only be my income to pay all the bills. I hardly ever have cancellations and turn a lot of work away due to being overbooked; however during the course of November and December I had a total of fourteen cancellations and seven non-collections. Four of the non-collections were cupcakes (two re-sold at a reduced rate and two boxes given away), and three were large cakes; one of which I was able to re-sell and the other two I was left with. The cancellations were all last minute and I was unable to fill the slots despite having previously turned work away. As a result of this if I had been in my own home I would not have been able to pay my mortgage during these two months. Which has led me to make an important decision....I have to go back out into the real world and get a job. I am still going to continue to do cakes as well; all orders booked will still be completed but I must take deposits in light of recent events. I will be drastically cutting down my workload to no more than 2 or three cakes a week, or no more than one cake a week if its a wedding. A lot of you will also know that I worked in a bank during the first 20 months of my business as well as spending 40-50 hours a week on making cakes so Im more than capable of doing both ;) Anyway Im currently taking orders for birthdays up until the end of April, and for weddings throughout the whole of 2015. I have loads of summer weddings booked in already and slots are becoming limited, so if you were thinking of asking me to create the cake for your big day dont hesitate to contact me and Ill invite you over for a chat, a cuppa and a piece of cake!
