Hello all jazz band students and parents! I have mentioned in - TopicsExpress

Hello all jazz band students and parents! I have mentioned in class and in a text about a Jazz Clinic on Saturday, September 20th for both jazz bands. I am bringing in Mr. Ronald Carter niu.edu/music/faculty/rcarter.shtml (https://youtube/watch?v=GiXzhBbqnNQ) who is a world renowned jazz artist and clinician. He has traveled the world spreading his knowledge of jazz education and he will be in Huntsville working with Grissom students as well as some other schools in the area as well as Birmingham area schools. He is also one of the directors of the Essentially Ellington Jazz Festival and the Director of the Essentially Ellington Jazz Band Director Academy which I attend in NYC this summer. It was an incredible experience for me. I learned so much and still have more to learn. Mr. Carter will inspire and motivate these students to love and perform their very best. I am very excited about this opportunity. PLEASE keep Saturday, September 20th open. I am coordinating his visit for all the participating schools and as soon as I come up with the schedule I will let you know. There will be a B jazz band session and an A jazz band session of about 2.5 hours each. We will probably do morning and/or early afternoon sessions. Bringing in a guest jazz artist/clinician of this calibre is not cheap. I am hoping the GBPA can foot our portion of the bill but there may be a small fee to attend for each student. NO MORE than $10.00 per student to help with expenses. Just to give you an idea his fee is $1,500.00 a day (8 hour day) with a 2 day minimum plus expenses. The other schools will be chipping in for sure but I just want you to know what it costs to bring in someone like this. He actually has family in Huntsville. One of his sons teaches at Grissom and he also has a brother that lives here. He will stay with family while here so that will help with some of the costs! This will be one of those experiences we will talk about for a long time. For you new jazz band members especially freshman students and parents, welcome to the Grissom Jazz Program! I am very excited to be able to get the year started with Mr. Carter! There are only a handful of schools that can say this and I am proud to be one of them! Thank you for you for your support!!
